The LiDAR Modules
Several Scanning LiDAR modules are available for use in the EWMS, each with different performance capabilities. They include:
- The Lockheed Martin WindTracer® with wind measurement range to 33 km
- The Halo Photonics Streamline Product lines offering measurment capabilities from 5 to 15 km
- AWSR15 Ultra Long Range (available early 2026)
The Data Post Processing Module
In all cases, measurement range varies according to atmospheric conditions.
The Data Post Processing module comprising advanced software to transform the raw data output from the LiDAR Module into high value data and graphical products. Products are generated in near real time using a dedicated high-end micro-computer.
Data and Graphics outputs include:
- Timeseries plots of horizontal and vertical wind speed and direction at all locations within the LiDAR scanning domain
- Terrane following vector wind plots
- Time series Vertical and Horizontal wind profiles
- High resolution Sector Scans and virtual Wind Roses at selected locations
- Wind Roses
- Wind Turbine Wake Profiles
- Turbulence Intensity
Power Supply, and Communication Module
The Power Supply, and Communication Module comprises a UPS, transformer, internal router, aerial and operating software to permit communication and remote control of the System over the internet. Data products can be examined in near real time or exported to a cloud for further analysis.
LiDAR Hardware Sales
AWS is the Australian distributer for the Lumibird family of fibre LiDAR systems.
Products include the industry leading Streamline Beam 6 Vertical wind profiler. This LiDAR offers superior vertical range measurement performance over competitor products with very high (95%) data retention rates at 300 m agl. This capability makes it suitable as a data source for driving numerical models, especially where the developer is planning to use turbines with blade height approaching the measurement height.
A further advantage of the Beam 6 is its superior capability with turbulence measurement, as confirmed in recent independent trials by a leading wind energy research organisation in Europe.
The full range of the Lumibird scanning LiDAR’s are also available including the Halo Streamline XR+. This compact, highly reliable LiDAR product is the choice of leading research organisations and commercial windfarm operators due to its compact size, reliability, and measurement skill.
